On a high-speed Autoconer line specifically, the right finish affects unwinding behaviour downstream (a cone that grips too little sheds yarn unevenly at the next process), package build (slippage on the first layers throws off the whole package geometry), and handling during transport (a package that's loose at the core is more prone to telescoping in transit).
