Identifying the Correct Taper for Your Machine
Both Schlafhorst and Rieter Autoconer machines are built around the same two industry-standard taper angles, but which one your specific heads are configured for depends on the machine generation and how it was set up at installation — it isn't safe to assume from the model name alone. Check the machine's technical documentation under the spindle or cone-holder specification section, or look for a taper marking on the spindle assembly itself.

Choosing the Right Surface Finish for Your Yarn
Surface finish is the friction interface between the cone and the first few yarn layers wound onto it — get it wrong and the yarn slips before tension builds, regardless of how accurate the taper is.
Discuss smooth, velvet or embossed finish using your actual yarn, count, winding settings and downstream process. Compare starting grip, package build and unwinding against the approved reference. A fibre type or machine brand alone does not establish the right finish.
On a high-speed Autoconer line specifically, the right finish affects unwinding behaviour downstream (a cone that grips too little sheds yarn unevenly at the next process), package build (slippage on the first layers throws off the whole package geometry), and handling during transport (a package that's loose at the core is more prone to telescoping in transit).
