Technical Specifications
Both taper angles are manufactured to the same kraft paper grade, cone weight, and wall thickness. The dimensional differences — base inner diameter and taper angle — determine machine compatibility and are not interchangeable. Specify your machine model to confirm the correct taper angle before ordering. For a full side-by-side comparison, see the detailed specifications page.

Why Cone Quality Directly Affects Winding Performance
Paper cones are not packaging — they are a production component. Every winding head loads a cone on every doff cycle. A cone that is out of specification does not fail at goods-in inspection; it fails on the winding head, mid-production, at a cost that compounds across every affected position and every shift. The four most common winding problems caused by cone quality each trace directly to a specific specification parameter.
Root cause: wrong surface finish for yarn type. Smooth finish against synthetic yarn provides insufficient friction — first layers slide before tension builds.
Velvet finish for all synthetic yarn and compact-spun or fine cotton above Ne 60s.
Root cause: roundness out of specification. Inner diameter ovality exceeding 0.3mm prevents even spindle seating — the cone wobbles at RPM and the package builds unevenly.
±0.25mm inner diameter tolerance maintained at both nose and base per batch.
Root cause: insufficient wall strength. Low GSM paper and cones below 40g have thinner walls that buckle under sustained yarn tension, especially at high winding speeds.
350–450 GSM kraft paper, 40–42g per cone, 1.5–2mm wall thickness.
Root cause: wrong notch type for the machine's auto-doffer mechanism. Mismatched notch geometry means the tail catch fails on every doff across every head.
V/Y/U notch matched to machine model and confirmed per order before production.

Machine Compatibility
Both the 4°20′ and 5°57′ cones are manufactured to fit the following autoconer and winding machine families. Notch type (V or Y) is confirmed per order — advise your machine model when requesting a proforma and we will specify the correct notch configuration.
| Machine | Standard taper | Notch type |
|---|---|---|
| Schlafhorst Autoconer X5, X6 | 5°57′ | Y-notch |
| Murata QPRO, Process Coner | 5°57′ | V-notch |
| Savio Orion, Polar, Espero | 5°57′ | V-notch |
| Two-for-one (TFO) twisters | 4°20′ | V/Y — confirm per model |
| Ring doubling machines | 4°20′ | V/Y — confirm per model |
Not sure which taper applies to your machine? See the full machine-by-machine reference in our 4°20′ vs 5°57′ taper angle guide, or contact us with your machine model and we will confirm the correct specification.
Paper Cone vs Plastic Cone
For most spinning mill winding applications, kraft paper cones are the correct choice on commercial, operational, and logistical grounds. The comparison below covers the factors most relevant to procurement decisions.
| Factor | Paper Cone | Plastic Cone |
|---|---|---|
| Eco-friendly / biodegradable | ✓ Yes | ✗ No |
| Cost per unit | Lower | Higher |
| Dyeing suitability | ✓ Compatible | Often incompatible |
| Weight per doff | Lighter (40–42g) | Heavier |
| Autoconer compatibility | ✓ Full range | Limited |
| Disposal | Recyclable / compostable | Landfill or specialist recycling |
| Bangladesh LDC zero-duty advantage | ✓ Applies (HSN 48221000) | ✗ Does not apply |
Bangladesh's LDC status under the EU EBA scheme and equivalent GSP programmes in the UK, Canada, and Japan means paper cone imports (HSN 48221000) from Bangladesh qualify for zero import duty. Plastic cones do not fall under the same tariff classification and do not benefit from LDC preference. For full duty rate information by country, see our HSN 48221000 guide and the Bangladesh supplier and FOB terms page.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 4°20′ and 5°57′ paper cones for yarn winding?
5°57′ is the standard for high-speed autoconers (Schlafhorst, Murata, Savio). 4°20′ is used on TFO twisters and doubling machines. The two are not interchangeable — using the wrong taper causes the cone to sit loose on the spindle, producing vibration that damages package geometry and accelerates bearing wear.
What surface finish should I choose for my yarn type?
Smooth finish suits ring-spun cotton Ne 20s–50s at standard winding speeds. Velvet finish is required for all synthetic yarn (polyester, nylon, acrylic) and compact-spun cotton, or any ring-spun cotton above Ne 60s. Embossed finish is used for high-twist ply constructions and worsted yarn. For a full selection guide with a yarn-type decision table, see our surface finish guide.
What dimensional tolerance do your cones meet?
±1mm in length and ±0.25mm inside diameter at both nose and base — the same tolerance standard used by major autoconer manufacturers. A batch quality certificate showing measured dimensional values from the production run is issued with every shipment.
What is the MOQ for paper cones from Bangladesh?
Minimum order quantities depend on specification and container configuration. Contact us with your taper angle, surface finish, notch type and monthly volume for a proforma invoice. Both 4°20′ and 5°57′ specifications can be combined within the same container shipment.
Do you supply paper cones compatible with Schlafhorst, Murata and Savio autoconers?
Yes. The 5°57′ Alishan cone is manufactured to the dimensional and notch specifications required by Schlafhorst X5/X6, Murata QPRO, and Savio Orion/Polar/Espero machines. Notch type (V or Y) is confirmed per order before production begins.
What are the FOB and shipping terms for paper cones from Bangladesh?
Supply is on FOB Chittagong terms. Bangladesh's LDC status qualifies paper cone exports (HSN 48221000) for zero import duty under the EU EBA scheme and equivalent GSP programmes in the UK, Canada and Japan. A Bangladesh Certificate of Origin is provided with each shipment. For full logistics and sourcing detail, see our Bangladesh supplier page.
